Get to Know Us. It was such a sweet, simple account of a young Algerian boy. When I finished it, however, I could not forget the story. Many scenes reminded me of the stories my mother used to tell me about my grandmother who grew up in similar conditions, something which brings this book a little bit more closely to my heart!

Let’s dig into Mouloud’s I might say that it was my first contact with a history which was older and broader than me and that yellow, nicely garnished classroom where I was seated, reading. While preparing for the admission exams, he was tormented by the prospects a peasant like him had: Perhaps more importantly, an entire section was omitted, significantlyaltering the conclusion and, indeed, the whole thrust of the book.
It’s been over a month since I read it and yet I still think about it. This book gives a good insight into life in Kabylie during colonization. Like the autobiographical hero of this, his classic first novel, Mouloud Feraoun grew up in the rugged Kabyle region of French-controlled Algeria, where the prospects for most Muslim Berber men were limited to shepherding oremigrating to France for factory work.
